Warm Springs Tribe Reveals Casino Name

The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs on Friday unveiled the name and the design for a controversial and much talked about new casino. The tribe's casino is to be located in the small town of Cascade Locks. According to reports, the tribes say the "Bridge of the Gods Columbia River Resort Casino" employs a design that aims to reflect an ancient fishing village.

According to the tribe, the casino will be built as a series of low-lying structures that have variations in height, depth and composition. The experience of a fishing village would be further enhanced as guests will have to enter the casino through a towering waterfall.

Len Bergstein, Warm Springs tribe spokesman says that in light of the information release, people can now offer feedback.

"We were just trying to set the table now as we enter that next phase of looking at all the studies, for people to understand what kind of a facility we're talking about, so they can understand the impacts," the spokesman said.

The casino was approved by Governor Kulongoski over the objections of conservationists saying it will bring traffic jams and pollution.

The project is still awaiting an environmental review. The Warm Springs casino, if given the all-systems-go, would be the first tribal casino to be built on non-tribal lands in Oregon.
